Nam June Paik's "PBS (1963-2000)"

Pioneering video artist Nam June Paik created his monumental public art installation, “PBS (1963-2000)", at the former NJ Network building on Front Street as part of New Jersey's Arts Inclusion Program in 1992-3.

Known as "the father of video art", Paik is considered one of the most innovative artists of the 20th Century. "PBS (1963-2000)" features massive wall panels filled with neon and 54 19” televisions streaming video created by Paik, as well as live feeds of NJN programming. Over the years, the piece fell into disrepair -- but was restored earlier this year under Artworks' leadership, with support from the NJ State Council on the Arts, and with the expertise of Trenton's master signmaker George Zienowicz, whose legendary sign shop can also be visited during Art All Day.

This hour-long walking tour and talk is led by Artworks Director Lauren Otis. It will focus on the sculpture and its restoration, as well as Trenton-area contributions to technology that fed into the work -- like the invention of color television at the nearby Sarnoff Center.
