Ian King is a mixed media artist and designer based in Newark, NJ. He is interested in recording visual histories through his compelling, illustrative portraiture—both in the traditional sense and through depicting stylized bodies in their abstract forms. These paintings are scrapbooked with ephemera, writings, and layers of varied mediums, making each piece a preservation of memory that is sentimental to the artist and his subjects. In his self-portrait impressions, he makes prevalent the pathos of living as a transgender man in a contemporary society. Elsewhere, he strives to put others first, leading viewers’ eyes deeper into worlds left untraveled and human conditions often forgotten or ignored.
