Medha Atre-Kulkarni

This painting of Lord Shiva, the "Aadi Yogi" (The origin of Yoga & meditation), is a reflection of the serenity and inner stillness I discovered through meditation during the pandemic. Shiva, revered as the divine source of yoga, meditation, and art, is portrayed here not just as a deity, but as a symbol of profound spiritual connection and transformation.
At the heart of the painting is Mount Kailash, with a radiant light above it—representing the Divine Energy one connects with through deep meditation. This light symbolizes joy, unity, and inner peace.
Each element in the artwork carries symbolic meaning:
The moon on Shiva's head represents the mind—a reminder of the power of meditation to calm thoughts and emotions.
The flowing river Ganga, emerging from Shiva's hair, signifies life-giving purity and the divine grace that is accessible to all.
The lotuses blooming above dark waters symbolize enlightened souls who have risen above suffering to embody peace and compassion.
The painting embodies the belief that true happiness purifies the heart, leaving no room for hate, racism, or discrimination. In such purity, one becomes a channel for the divine.
Ultimately, this work is a tribute to the presence of Shiva—the pure light and truth that exists in all beings.
